Speaking personally, and although I know other people do it, for my
own backups I wouldn't consider NFS for the pool storage.  Building
that on top of a VM as well seems to me to be adding more and more
fragility to something (your backup) which has no business being
unnecessarily fragile.  I understand it wasn't your first choice.

Which version of BackupPC did you try with OpenBSD, and (exactly) how
did you install it?

If anyone has got backuppc running on OpenBSD directly, any info on how
to do that would be first prize.

Although I've never used BackupPC with OpenBSD, so I can't relate any
personal experience, people seem to be writing about it on the Web:
