Another possibility would be to store on zfs and use send/receive to
update the differences but you would have to start from scratch and
your remote side probably can't handle that either. That wasn't
available when I started using backuppc and then seemed too new and
experimental to trust. But it is sort-of designed for that purpose.
Yeah, zfs snapshot sync would be the way to do it, but Hetzner Storage
Box does not support that, of course. I also don't like that it's a
root-level operation.
Borg seems like it might do the job. Of course the inital backup of
1.8Tb looks like it might take a week to sync, but then it should be
fast(er).
