AIRC that's a libunique "feature". Balsa currently uses libunique to avoid creating multiple instances, and when a secondary instance communicates with the primary instance, in this case to find status info, libunique hits the primary instance with gtk_window_set_urgency_hint. Arguably a libunique bug. The gtk3 branch will in due course migrate from libunique to GtkApplication, which we hope has a saner implementation--time will tell!
