Thanks for pointing that out--I hadn't tried gedit's spell checking! Before GtkSpell, Balsa used a check-on-demand spell checker like gedit's "Check spelling" tool, and can still be configured --without-gtkspell to use it. That builds and runs fine with gtk3 (although currently it does nothing...need to look into that :). Gedit's "highlight misspelled words" tool is implemented using a fork of GtkSpell. Balsa could of course do the same, but I'd _much_ rather avoid it! I guess the gedit devs just got tired of waiting... Best, Peter
