Interesting... I changed mine (added /baruwa), because I saw it as incorrect.

Rolling back to a snap shot and picking up from there. I will leave scripts as I find them this time.

I see something interesting in my configs

/etc/default/baruwa
CELERYD_LOG_FILE=/var/log/baruwa/celeryd.log
CELERYD_PID_FILE=/var/run/baruwa/celeryd.pid

/etc/init.d/baruwa
CELERYD_LOG_FILE=${CELERYD_LOG_FILE:-${CELERYD_LOGFILE:-"/var/log/celeryd.log"}}
CELERYD_PID_FILE=${CELERYD_PID_FILE:-${CELERYD_PIDFILE:-"/var/run/celeryd.pid"}}

My actual log file is in /var/log/baruwa/...
My actual PID file is in /var/run/baruwa/...

I am not sure if that makes a difference or not, but mine works.

    No errors and everything works except celeryd

    And when you try to start it?

        Have done that.

        restart comes back with there is no process running to stop.

        status shows celeryd is not running.

        I didn't see anyone recommend:

        service baruwa status
        OR
        service baruwa restart
        OR
        service baruwa start

        If someone did and I apologize

            Used your (Terry) modified script, but it did not help.
            Everything else works fine, just not celryd.

                    I just noticed that you used the SpamSnake
                    tutorial. There is something that needs changed
                    in the startup script for permissions. Change
                    all the www-data group settings in
                    /etc/init.d/mailscanner to celeryd.

                    I also had to change some things in the script
                    in order to be compliant with perl. You can
                    find my last post here:
                    http://www.howtoforge.com/forums/showthread.php?t=60517

                    I am not sure if this will help or not but since
                    you used the spamsnake tutorial, it may be relevant.
