Astronomy and Music Mix at Peninsula Symphony Concerts May 19 and 20th

The Peninsula Symphony will present a program combining
astronomically themed music, some of the best images of the planets, and
narration by Bay Area astronomer Andrew Fraknoi, during their concerts Friday
May 19th and Saturday May 20th. The program, conducted by Maestro Mitchell
Sardou Klein, includes Gustav Holst's The Planets Suite and Nancy Bloomer
Deussen's newer composition called Transit of Venus. Both will be accompanied
by photographs from recent space probes and large telescopes, and will be
preceded with a short introduction to the science involved.

For more information about the concerts, their location, and how to buy
tickets, go to: http://peninsulasymphony.org/2017may/ Andrew Fraknoi is the
Chair of the Astronomy Department at Foothill College and co-author of the new
children's book on eclipses, When the Sun Goes Dark.

Fraknoi will also briefly preview the August 21, 2017 eclipse of the Sun, which
will be visible (with the Moon hiding about 75% of the Sun) from the Bay Area.
Every attendee will receive a free pair of safe eclipse-viewing glasses,
