This 'debate' seems to be like two people listening to a song that they both think has different words and both telling each other "See. I told you that's what it said!" every time they hear them. The nag screen annoys Evan. It doesn't annoy some other people. And some of us just plain couldn't care about it as we'll never use BBEdit on more than one machine anyway.

For what its worth - I agree with Evan. Its very annoying when your legitimate use of something is disallowed because measures have to be taken to stop illegitimate users abusing their license. If I have paid for something and am using it in the spirit of the license I paid for (if not the letter) it seems a shame that I am penalised for this.

For what its worth - I don't agree with Evan. I think that all things considered Bare Bones license is damn generous and takes into account the real-world needs of the vast majority of its users. Beyond some point of generosity there *would* be a loss to the company in sales as people would abuse the liberty of a multi-seat license - as has been seen by posts here, and as I know from experience of working in a large team with a miserly boss.

To take a liberty with a comparison - I don't like having my bags searched everywhere I go in London these days, but its an inconvenience I am prepared to put up with for the security it (arguably) gives. Software piracy exists and companies like Bare Bones will ultimately suffer is they don't take precautions against it. No solution will suit everyone and we should all admit that we would be aggrieved if the chosen solution affected our individual way of working. How we would react to this is a different matter :-)
