For default browser, I think he wants RCDefaultApp or MisFox or one
of those utilities that sets the mappings in Launch Services.

Maybe... but can you tell me -- off the top of your head -- the
Finder's algorithm for determining files "like this" (id est, file
type and/or filename extension, and which overrides which)?

At least with third-party utilities, one is not working blind and
hoping the Finder's intelligence is at least as advanced as one's
own. (IME, "smart" programs, such as smart quotes or smart copy
paste, almost *never* behave in the manner I need, so I get the best
results by using explicit commands.)
