I'm glad to see some discussion of this issue.

For myself, I am looking for a flexible platform for editing ePub files.
Many of the methods of generating them include unnecessary cruft, as usual,
and I would like to have the option of cleaning them up.

Another scenario for me would be to build a new ePub file using a previous
file as a template. (You see, I still am attracted to the possibility of
hand crafting these ebooks.)

This is why I was looking to BBEdit projects as what seemed like a good
framework for including an ePub/zip file plus auxiliary files that are not
part of the ePub itself.

Perhaps this is too complex a scenario for BBEdit to work with. Or perhaps
there are others who would like to be able to do this as well. I don't find
many good tools for working directly with the code of an ePub file, and
BBEdit's support for it raised my hopes a bit. Perhaps too much. But that's
the dream... open a project, and have all the files there ready to work on.

In any case, I do appreciate any clarifications that the BBEdit team can
offer.

Thanks.

I believe that was part of the original poster's question and I was trying
to cover all the bases. :)
