He is using the built-in FTP client which has always worked for me with no 
issues, it only accesses the remote server when you are loading/saving a 
document so this is not likely the issue. Is your document very large? Do you 
have enough RAM? Is this an issue with other applications (this would suggest 
that something is up with the OS).
