Hello,

I have a Compaq Presario F557US laptop that has a broadcom wireless chip
in it. I have installed Linux kernel 2.6.21.3 on it, and the firmware
cut from wl_apsta.o by bcm43xx-fwcutter version 6.

lcpci -vn output:

03:00.0 0280: 14e4:4311 (rev 01)
        Subsystem: 103c:1363
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 20
                Memory at b8000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=16K]
Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2
Capabilities: [58] Message signalled Interrupts: Mask- 64bit-
Queue=0/0 Enable-
Capabilities: [d0] Express Legacy Endpoint IRQ 0
                Capabilities: [100] Advanced Error Reporting
                Capabilities: [13c] Virtual Channel

The driver *almost* works, in that it comes up with no errors, configures
correctly, and then I can use iwlist to scan the neighborhood, so it is
obviously recieving, but it does not transmit.

When I ask it to establish an IP address by connecting to my wireless
access point (WAP), my wireless signal detector detects no signals coming
from the laptop at all.

Even when placed right next to the antenna of the WAP, no communication
occurs.

I attempted to use the driver firmware from the proper Windows driver
for this laptop (sp34488.exe) from the HP web site, under the theory
that the firmware had changed such that the driver's transmitter
on/off commands were not being properly interpreted.

Unfortunately, when I unpack sp34488.exe, I get files that bcm43xx-fwcutter
verison 6 can't understand.

Does anybody else have this laptop, or know how to modify the
bcm43xx-fwcutter tool to extract firmware from the sp34488.exe files?

Thanks,
John S.
