Roger, My father's family was descended from Irish Catholic stock and at a wedding they could not wait to get the ring off the brides finger to spin it first over her and then over to groom to see who many children of which sex, each would parent. By this they determined how many would be "conceived between the sheets" (of the matrimonial bed) and how many "out side the sheets" as well as the total tally.
