My first script in perl was: hmm, lets see if I can remember. It was only a few months ago. Ah yes. It was an automated ftp script for work (I got paid for it (: ). I used Net::FTP though :) I love Perl. Everyone at work calls me the Perl freak. I am a "Friar" at www.perlmonks.org (Snafu) which I might say, people like Japhy and Merlyn (who frequents this mailing list) have helped out immensely.
