In the end, it really boils down to this: do I have access to all the
software I need.

Over the years I've used Solaris, I've always had to deal with
building my own of a few packages and all of them a challenge that is
not for the faint of heart. I dont mind what I need to type in front
of the software name, as long as it downloads and run. Or even a self
installation. In fact, if not already available from the install DVD,
I prefer a self contained installer that I can download. See all the
software that Sun packages, such as Sun Studio, Sun Web Server,
netbeans, open office etc.

BTW, some of the challenging software were Audacity, wine (although
the latest actually compiles effortlessly but breaks a bunch of apps),
Blender, mplayer with all the plugins and many more. Actually I never
got blender working, but you get my point.
