Me too. in fact, installing gentoo was the best way to refresh my memory about long forgotten linux commands and basic sys architecture since you need to type in all the commands. :=) *Definitely* not for all!!!!! having a few spare cpu cycles doesnt hurt either! there was a project which provided pre-built binaries for gentoo for most common packages but i think its no longer functional now..... > Still think it is worth checking out how the OpenSolaris port of > portage is doing. (depending on volunteers to pitch in the extra effort). hmmm.... or at least for the kde subset....... heck, even kde for windows has emerge working now! from what i have understood, getting kde 4 (and above) to run still requires quite a bit of compiling (and learn a lot in the process, no doubt!)............. i could be wrong though since i currently have only a livecd :-( anyone has a copy of the kde4 solaris live cd that Adrian passed around in Akademy 2008 ?
