A few years ago we had plans for the fourth and suspecting that it might be a challenge for Emma (the most destructive berner ever) I put her in the basement family room in a crate with the TV on to help with noise. When we arrived home we discovered that Emma, true to her reputation, had broken out of the crate (breaking apart the crate) and chewed the couch apart in the process. She is now happily drugged on the fourth and any other holidays in which fireworks may be involved. We also do not leave her alone. The drugs wear off, she is fine, and the furniture remains intact.
