I upgraded to latest nightly and firmware 29 this morning: SlimServer Version: v2006-02-03 and player firmware Version: 29.
I immediately got dropouts and stuttering. Signal strength is 8% lower. I looked at the Networking Utilisation display in Windows Task Manager and found that the network transmission is different from when firmware v28 was running. The network utilisation starts at and remains at 1% throught the track, dropping down to 0.01% 36seconds before the end of the track. Buffer fullness on the player is very slow to reach, and often does not achieve 100%, only climing to 10 - 20% max. Observing buffer fullness reveals that the stuttering occurs when the buffer drops back down to 0%. Because the buffer is not 100% full approaching the end of track, the last second or so of the track is often cut off. Going back to v2006-01-28 and v28, at the beginning of a track there is a 6-10 sec burst of transmission at about 4% utilisation then the activity drops down to just under 1% until 36sec before the end of the track, when it drops to 0.07%. This pattern is repeated on all subsequent tracks. The now playing Buffer Fullness display on the player shows that the buffer takes 10sec to fill to 100% and remains at 99-100% until 36-40sec before the end of the track, then steadily drops to 0%. There are no dropouts or truncation of the track. My conclusions? Using v28, the 10sec burst of network activity at about 4% fills the player buffer to 100%, and the subsequent activity at just below 1% keeps it topped-up throught the track. Using v29, the buffer struggles to reach, and more often than not fails to achieve 100% fullness. When it reaches only 10-20% it often drops down to 0% and dropouts and stuttering occur. I'm sticking with v28 for the time being. -- afblaster ------------------------------------------------------------------------ afblaster's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1643 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=20506 _______________________________________________ beta mailing list [email protected] http://lists.slimdevices.com/lists/listinfo/beta
