OH! After BSG, we got together to play a game of Red November (I was on a cooperative kick, though I didn't get a chance to play Ghost Stories, which I had brought), which also is deserving of a summary report. We had six players in the game, two of whom had played the game before, and one of whom had just played through a disastrous game on the computer (me). We were looking pretty good for the first half of the game, keeping the fires and floods under some semblance of control, and we were knocking out the timed events fairly well. Nothing extraordinary happened during that time (unless you take into account the normal random events of the game), but it was during the penultimate turn that things became interesting....
Our electric-green player used one grog to enter the missile room, and took a full ten minutes to ensure that he could stop the countdown. In the process, he failed his faint check. He had to resolve about 5 events in the deck afterward, and the second one was a fire that erupted in the missile room. He died, and we stopped resolving his events. At that point, we were all down to about the 15 minute mark, and we took a couple of extra turns to get the death tracks back up to their maximum value. We started resolving our events, and it just so happened that all of the timed events (we had three of them among all five players in the last turn) came out at a point where we didn't have enough time remaining on the submarine to place them down. The remaining players all spent the maximum amount of time they could spend on repairing SOMETHING (it didn't matter what), to get to the end of the time track and let all of the events resolve themselves as they would. The rest of us made it off of the submarine, but if it hadn't been for our electric-green player burning up in the fire, we would have all been toast, I think. His was a valiant sacrifice. --~--~---------~--~----~------------~-------~--~----~ You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "BGG Down" group.
