I just discovered that I can override acceptsFirstMouse: and  
shouldDelayWindowOrderingForEvent: to get this behavior, if I  
understand correctly what you mean.  That's cool...I was wondering how  
to make dragging work without activating the window.

True, although we could display the item title or something.  I'm just  
trying to get a sense of what people might think is useful, but maybe  
the current setup is perfect and I'm wasting my time ;).
