Okay, that confirms my suspicion: the abstract is included in the "Note" field (and the Abstract field, which is weird). I think the Note field is always inserted by BibTeX, so it's the wrong place for abstracts and personal notes; it's commonly used as a catch-all for incomplete bib information.
