Hi Craig The under bottom bracket generators are probably still available in some places however they had issues. While some though they were better than a bottle generator because of less slippage when wet it was the wet that damaged the bearings and gave sporadic performance. I rode PBP 99 with one It was howling for the first night so I drenched the bearings with oil. the second night it refused to work at all ... I think the oil penetrated the workings but it did not howl anymore. Anyway battery lights night two. Then on the third night it started working once again which was good thing as I was running out of light options. After PBP i invested in a SON hub generator and have used it ever since. It is simply brilliant works like charm with over 50,000 kilometers on it now. I may have to send it back sometime to get the bearings repacked but it giving no sign of this being an issue at this point. Uh Oh I may have just jinxed myself .
