Talk to your local REI.  If you looked on the website, things that are
simply out of stock generate a message that suggests they're no longer
handling them ever again.  With the touring bikes they usually make a single
run per year & not many at that.  

Two of my touring buds have the Safari & love them, especially the disc
brakes, gearing, rack & trekking bars.  One guy had to add an extension to
get the bars up where he liked them but even the seat is decent.  It's a
great value for the money.  Ugly color IMHO but the owners couldn't care
less about that.

Seems like the REI safari is no longer offered. The Surly LHT is an
interesting
option.  Also less money at the end of the day.  The Gunnar Fast Lane
looks
like it would be more fun to ride though.  I really like the idea of
disk brakes.
