I live on the Isthmus near Tenney Park and bike to my job at the
university all year long. There are no off road bike paths for me to
take. However, I feel safe on the side roads. When on occasion I find
myself on the E. Johnson bike lane, these occurrences of cars coming too
close are quite regular. On Saturday I was without a car and therefore
biked from my home near Tenney Park to the Villager Mall on South Park
for the Mayor's neighborhood round table. I was able to take an off
road bike path almost the entire way. I had a huge smile on my face the
whole way. What a difference. Thanks Madison for off road bike paths.
Because in my opinion, cars and bikes don't yet play well together and
maybe never will. I pose the challenge to you who think differently,
why do we have sidewalks? Do pedestrians need a space removed from
traffic? I position myself as yes they do, because one unnecessary
death by a cell phone induced swerve is too many. So, thanks to all of
you who have work to create these wonderful bike paths. I wish there
were more in my neck of the woods ( I do love the path along the Yahara
River and use that regularly.)

Just curious if anyone else had any incidents today. Both me and my
significant other were purposely passed with much less than 3 feet to
spare [ aka the brush-by] and then had the offending cars cut into the
bike lane ahead of us [ I'm sure many of you are familiar with this
tactic of intimidation ] . That's three incidents in the time span of 1
hour today. Hate radio at work?
