I rode around Lake Michigan last summer, and I'd say the biggest tip I
can offer is to watch out for routes suggested by Google Maps, even in
bike mode.  Most of the roads in the UP are unpaved, and unlike
Wisconsin, just because it's called a highway doesn't mean that it
won't turn into a loose sand road.
