Google maps bike mode is a beta program. It is upgraded by folks writing in their experience, but the mapping is terrible. I used it in South Dakota last summer and was constantly on gravel and having to reroute.

Most of the roads in the UP are unpaved, and unlike Wisconsin, just because it's called a highway doesn't mean that it won't turn into a loose sand road.
