I went around clockwise, using the ferry from Muskegon into Milwaukee.
I didn't have any issues finding spots to camp in Wisconsin, but I
didn't hug the coastline. Starting in Madison I hit Pike Lake State
Park, High Cliff State Park, Oconto City Park, JW Wells State Park and
on into Michigan. If at all possible I suggest a stop off at
Taquamanon State Park. There's a pretty little waterfall, and some
wonderful local beer.
