I agree that inviting the mayor on a bike ride is far better than merely asking him to clarify his position.
But how is questioning Soglin's remarks, which seem to indicate a bias that many on this list disagree with, hateful? If there have been hateful remarks made, they were not made by those questioning his remarks on this list (unless I missed something). They were made by Paul Soglin. And I'm not even talking about the 2007 comment that he said was tongue-in-cheek. I'm talking about what he said less than ten days ago while campaigning outside the Willy St Co-op: "people who bike in winter should have their head examined." I haven't questioned his sanity over his transportation choices; but he has certainly questioned my sanity and the sanity and many, many people I know who ride bikes safely all year round, every year. So who is being hateful? I, too, would be glad to participate in a ride with our Mayor. It would be a great opportunity to hear - from him - what he has to say on the subject of all season transportation cycling, rather than hear from his supporters what they believe his position on the subject to be.
