I was behind a UW student who signaled the traditional bent-elbow right turn (which would have taken him into the wall by Science Hall) and then turned left. I caught up and asked and he said he was told the "L" shape meant Left turn. Not sure how he handled right turns, but ... I use the "L" but point, with my index finger, to the right a few times, just to emphasize the direction I'll be turning.
