Bcycles use a bolt-on version of the shimano dynohub with an integral brake
(and tamper resistant fasteners) for electrical generation.

I use a slightly lighter version of the same hub myself to power my Inoled
lights and DToplight taillights.

I don't recall what kind of light the bcycles are using, but I think it's one
of the Lumotecs with a standlight (i.e., it has a capacitor to store enough
electricity so that the light stays on even when you are stopped at a stop
light).

anybody know what the b-cycles have on them? i think they are hub generators
with storage, too.

Good to know about the PW-Cronometro connection.

A while back my taillight died, and I went to Yellow Jersey, which advertises
generator systems, for help. Not only was Andy his usual delightful self, but
the stuff he was selling was crap. Also he misdiagnosed the problem as being
in the hub generator, rather than the light. Budget and Willie don't even try
to deal with this, unless they've started to recently.

Peter White is also a distributor to other bike shops in North America , and
Cronometro has had an account with him since I bought my Inoled headlights

http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/inoled.asp

and DToplight (taillights)

http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/taillights.asp

from them a couple of years ago.

I've left them on my bike year round, been very happy with them since, and
have done absolutely nothing to them (other than move one set from one bike
to another) over what is about to be their third winter.

I have been using a hub generator, with both head- and taillights, for a long
time. They used to be good in the halolgen era, but in the LED era now they
are great.

This is not something the LBS's around here have much info on, however. I've
bought mine from Peter White in the Boston area and been very satisfied:
http://www.peterwhitecycles.com/ He has lots of info on the site, even if you
buy elsewhere.

I have a Schmidt hub generator, with LED lights that have capacitor storage,
so they stay lit when you stop at an intersection. There are other generators
(rim and bottom bracket) and many kinds of lights. But I'm very happy with
this system and would be glad to show it off if anyone would like to see it.

Who has pedal powered bike lights (i.e. generator lights)? Any that you
like/don't like? I'm looking to compare price, usefulness, sustainability,
etc.
