Based on the news reports, I expected bike riding to be sheer hell this morning. I figured that the roads would be rideable on the way home, so I got out my bike and planned to put it on the bus for the ride to work.
But when I got outside, I found that conditions weren't all that bad. The residential streets in my neighborhood were icy, but the ice had a lot of texture and my unstudded tires had plenty of traction. And the major streets were fine -- wet and occasionally slushy -- and the bike paths were OK. So my commute from the near west side was pretty good.
