At the base of Grabell Point (just east of Long Beach and where Reg. Road #3 turns north away from the lake), there was a large group of over 300 shorebirds, including 23 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS (all adults), 19 juv. SHORT-BILLED DOWITCHERS, and 10 other species of shorebirds.
Further east at the tip of Morgan's Point, there were 4 WHITE-RUMPED SANDPIPERS and a fly-by COMMON LOON. One BLACK-BELLIED PLOVER was off of Harborview Road at the eastern base of Morgan's Point. Rock Point Provincial Park, north of Dunnville, was rather unproductive with only a few dozen shorebirds, mostly Killdeer. Off of Stonemill Road (between Ridgway and Fort Erie), there were 9 Mute Swans, and 2 GREAT EGRETS (one was banded - 14R - white letters on red on the left leg). Butterflies of interest were 7 GIANT SWALLOWTAILS at five locations - at least 3 were on Buffalo Road between Dominion Road and the lake. Also of note were 2 BROAD-WINGED SKIPPERS on Snyder Road east of Port Colborne. Good birding! Willie -------------- Willie D'Anna Betsy Potter Niagara Falls, N.Y.
