Today, June 13, at 5:30 p.m., between thundershowers, we viewed a male
dickcissel singing on a large dead tree within two or three hundred metres
of Dundas Street. If only find rarities was always this easy.

OFO members and friends are reminded of the upcoming Bird Blitz,
organized for OFO and Toronto Ornithological Club, stewardship
partners, by Bronwen Smith of The Nature Conservancy of Canada, and
local naturalists Bob Bowles and Ron Reid. This is an opportunity to
bird on Cameron Ranch, recently acquired by NCC, home to many
grassland birds including nesting Loggerhead Shrikes.

Meeting time is 5.30 A.M. on SATURDAY, JUNE 18th, at the Ranch gate on
Kawartha Road 6 (Kirkfield Road).

Bring a GPS if you have one, plus sun protection, bug spray and
bottled water.

The point counts take only a few morning hours, after which you are
free to adjourn for breakfast or continue birding in the area. It
would be helpful to be able to assign and brief count teams in
advance. Please get in touch with:

Birders,

On Monday evening at the shorebird habitat there was a sub adult Tricolored
Heron feeding with great blues and a couple of great egrets in the standing
corn left in the habitat. As far as i know the only other birders to see
this rare find are Alan, Marianne Reid and Steve Pike. Where are you?

Hillman Marsh: Either from Leamington or Wheatley take cty.road 37 south
from the talbot Trail (old #3) for about 5km or so till you see the Hillman
Marsh sign.

Good Birding,

Dean Ware
Wheatley ON.
