I doubt an unsigned contract like that is going to go very far in front of
a judge. Threaten to take them to small claims court. They're happy to play
games like that until it looks like it's going to cost them more money than
it's worth.

We had them try that stunt with some old internet service we cancelled
(after completing the initial agreed upon contract term). They suggested we
needed to pay over $2K for cancelling the 'auto renew' contract. Told them
we never agreed to such a contract and if they felt they had a case they
were welcome to take us to court. Never heard a thing about it again
(neither from Bell nor their collection weenies)..
