I don't think I missed the point.  I wasn't looking at an online payment
system as being a single item; it could easily grow into additional
"services" provided by OpenSRS.  I don't think it's too much of a
stretch to assume that once the technology for on-line payments was
operational, someone would think it was a good idea to provide it as an
additional "service" for the benefit of RSPs.  I don't think it's
appropriate for OpenSRS to develop services that duplicate what RSPs do.
The important thing here is that the technology wouldn't be able to pay
for itself *other* than by providing end-user services or by charging a
premium to the RSPs who took advantage of it.

My point is that such development would have to be paid for by someone,
and since I have my *own* credit card payment system, I don't want that
someone to be me.

I think it's the bigger picture.
