Carol,
There is no relation with any other quality towards the
scrapiesensitivitygenotyping whatsoevver as far as proven till now. Remind
you this only a genotyping to find out which sheep can get scrapie easier
than others. This doesnt mean that these sheep with for example vrq-vrq
genotype have scrapie. On the arr-arr typed sheep all over the world have
not been found any proven scrapieresults YET!!! Although there are diverse
research methods which gave sometimes positive results on scrapie, and that
is why there are diverse discussions going on about the whole program.
My purebred Barbadosrams and Half breds with the kameroen in it have all
been genotyped arq-arq. Which is so called "the wildfactor" . From the arq
typed sheep have been found an occasionaly example of scrapie (from
registries all over Europ and not found in my flock). A few breeds are way
ahead with genotyping and have many arr-arr typed sheep already, as there is
the Texel, the Oxford Down, the Swifter, the Suffolk and Kerry Hill.. I may
leave a few out, this are only examples.
kind regards
Boudewijn Kooijman
