Mona, Sue and your Husbands; Thanks for your thought. I was aware the mother cougar would gorge and then regurgitate for kits. Wont she also take an animal if small enough, whole back to her kits? In the past when we had goats something came in, we though a cougar, and ate one of our kids, left only the rib cage and it was licked clean. The other kid at that same time was just gone. We guessed she ate one and took the other back to kits. We went a few year with out loosing anything. Then a couple of years age we saw a bobcat and later found one of our goats dead. Kill to the throat and you could see the fang marks. Then we've gone a couple of years and now were into BB's and goats are gone. I've killed a coyote around late Feb, luckily I was looking at the right time, he almost got a sheep. At that time there were 3 other coyotes working the field with him. Haven't seen any after that. The thing is they weren't making any noise, I just happened to be out doing chores and one caught my eye so I started really looking. These past two kills there was nothing to see. There was no carcass, there was a few drops of blood a couple of leaves and small amount on the grass. No foot prints it was all on wet grass. No traces of anything, that I could find. I really looked the place over, I even took pictures. I know that sounds bad but I didn't know if maybe I would have to explain to a trapper or whom ever what happened, I though it would be best to show pictures. I had never seen this. The lamb that was taken Saturday morning there was also no clues that I could find. It's like it just vanished. My horse was in her stall, and it was taken just off the back of her stall. She didn't make a noise. We agree with the shoot, shovel and shut up. I was told by officials when we had goats that we have had enough kills to shoot any predictor that comes in. Now I'm being told that we have to have a cougar tag. Or the sheriff will be involved and if I can't prove my life was in danger, I would be in trouble. So, she say's purchase a tag so no questions are asked. I'll be talking to the trapper today. This lady made it sound like it will be expensive. Thank every one again for all the thoughts and stories you've had. Sandy
