Barb,

I raise Barbado sheep for our personal consumption. Any extra, I sell. I
live in southern Arizona and have a large Mexican population in my
community. I also sell many rams (as well as other animals) to a priest the
observes a Caribbean religion.

I love this breed of sheep because of the flavor of the meat, the fact that
I don't have to shear them, they are hardy in extreme temps, don't require
deworming/vaccinations, eat anything and are very prolific. You must also
consider the fact that their meat is very healthy for you. I believe the
University of the Virgin Isles did a study and found the meat of the BBB to
be less in cholesterol than white fish. I know there is very little fat
associated with these sheep.

I only get from $50 (cross breeds) to $75 (registerable stock) for my lambs.
But when you have 9 ewes that twin or triple twice a year, they more than
pay for their upkeep and then some (a squeeze of hay is $400 right now) and
keep my freezer stocked.

With my most recent lambing (21 lambs total), I have sold breeding stock to
many corners of the state. It is exciting to be able to help propagate
these sheep.

That is why I raise these sheep.
