Hi George,

The U.S. government is running a little behind on this year's ewe lamb retention program. (That's the program where the feds will pay you $18 for each ewe lamb you purchased or retained between Aug. 1, 2003, and July 31, 2004.) To read the most recent announcement, and learn why your local Farm Services Bureau hasn't a clue what's going on, go to
ftp://ftp.fsa.usda.gov/public/notices/LD_547.pdf

Here is a fairly quick summary of the program from the Northeast Sheep and Goat Marketing Program at http://www.sheepgoatmarketing.org/sgm/news/ewelamb.htm:

I believe the Lamb Meat Adjustment program ended in July 2003, but they may have extended it. You need to contact your Farm Services Agency for both programs.
