My sister-in-law has 3 llamas in with our sheep. The llamas were not bought for that purpose, they were bought because my sister-in-law likes them. When a strange dog or person gets near the fenceline, the sheep run away from the fence, while the llamas go towards the fence to check out the intruder. The strange dogs don't know what to think about the llamas. The llamas are curious when it comes to the lambs. They will go up to them and sniff them over a little bit then walk away. Most of the time the llamas don't stay very close to the sheep. They do go on alert when the sheep startle over something and check things out. We also have two large dogs that run the property, but not in the pastures. One is a border collie mix that doesn't herd. The woolies that my sister-in-law use to have, have rolled both the dogs. My blackbellies seem to like my little dog, a Pomeranian. They nuzzle her and flick their tails like a lamb does when nursing.
