I have Spottie the orphan back in the house tonight. I had her penned up in
with her mom & brother
since Saturday, trying to reunite the family (while continuing to feed her
formula twice a day).
Today I let mom go.. and Spottie is still an orphan. She wanders around
calling for someone.... this
afternoon as I watched from afar... the sheep wandered off to graze out back
& Spottie didn't follow
them. She stayed up at the barn. So.. I brought her in.

Now that she's in... I see she keeps squatting to pee. She dribbles a
bit...or makes small puddles...
but is squatting WAY too much. Can she be blocked? From what?? It's now
7:30 here, and if she's
blocked we're talking ER fees etc etc... Can a 5 day old lamb get blocked?
I've Googled, and found talk of rams & whethers with calculi... but nothing
yet about lambs.

AAAACCCCCKKK!
Help appreciated.

If she is not getting any milk from the ewe, then she is dehydrated with
only 2 feedings a day. Lamb formula contains a lot of sugars, and this can
cause sugar crystals in the urine that burn when passing water. I had one
penned
up for a week to get them to bond with the ewe. After about 3 days it was
the lambs problem, not the ewe's. seemed like the lamb could not hear the
ewe calling. Or just could not get his butt on the right side of where he
needed to be. I would suggest more feedings with formula. I have moted that
I
tend to make the formula too concentrated. I have since added more water than
the recipe suggests. This will help to prevent dehydration.
