Thanks. I am familiar with training and I've been using Quicksilver for
years so old stuff is pretty well trained. But my files aren't static and I
go through this headache everytime.

Like I said, this "orb" was an easy example where Orbis.app showed up
within the first page. But let's say I want to train "or" to launch it (we
generally want the shortest shortcut possible) or even just "o", these are
where this gets really frustrating because you have to go on a needle in a
haystack chase to get the first round of training. "Orbis.app" shows up
pages and pages down my results with these, 99% of which don't start with O
or OR, most don't even have an adjacent O and R.

I mean look at the first result for "OR" for a better example. The first
result is

/Applications/Utilities/Activity Monitor.app

There is absolutely no way you can logically say that's a better match for
"or" than

/Applications/Orbis.app

Orbis has the o and r in a better position in the file name, a better
position in the total file path, is equal in the file path minus file name,
and has a higher directory heirarchy position. And this is with the
"better" Textstarter string ranker. What system of sorting logic could
possibly put Activity Monitor.app before Orbis.app? The only way Activity
Monitor.app is superior is if you read the file name backwards! Is that
what it's doing? And if so that's a clear bug in the sorting system.

The default string ranker puts this folder first:

~Library/Application Support/Corel

Again, what crazy logic makes that a better match than
/Applications/Orbis.app?

I understand training and have been using Quicksilver since the Jitkoff
days, but to train you need to be able to reasonably find the item the
first time around in catalogs that can contain hundreds or thousands of
items. "or" to find /Applications/Orbis.app should be an easy match, it
turns into a huge hassle when I want to find something that's actually hard
which is why I'm making this post. I've always used Quicksilver a fraction
of as much as I should because of this and assumed the string ranker was
going to be improved but 8 years later it definitely hasn't (though I will
say Textstart is an improvement and I don't understand why it's not the
default until a better one can be made).
