Just realized that of course you'd still have to be careful for whitespace due to line-wrapping and presentation of the commands in the BLFS book - wasn't thinking too clearly there.
However, we chose to used that particular build method over BLFS's as it's the officially suggested and supported method and it makes it easy to maintain with the numerous configure options kept neatly in a separate file. From my conversation with other random LFS users, I'd gather that most (especially those who have been doing this for a while) don't use BLFS's build-method for Firefox either.
