Just noticed that in the 3.4.4 patch Jim Gifford says 'Upstream Status: Delayed till 3.4.4' ( it IS 3.4.4 !). So I guess it wasn't, and hence needs to be the LFS Ch6. My best guess is that it is still needed for those apps that needed it before - I'm not qualified to make that determination though. I tried to talk to Jim on IRC, but he is AWOL atm.
