Weird, I had no idea Keith Packard was involved in Debian. It looks
like from
http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/main/f/fontconfig/fontconfig_2.3.2-5.1.diff.gz
that they're essentially doing the same thing we're doing with the sed
to add in DejaVu. Except they're not explicitly removing Bitstream.
I suppose we could make a patch to add in DejaVu and Firefly. I'd
still prefer to have a separate file in /etc/fonts/conf.d, but that
would require me to figure it out.
Maybe some more info in the book about testing FC is necessary.
Here's something interesting I just found out
$ fc-match monospace
DejaVuSansMono.ttf: "DejaVu Sans Mono" "Book"
$ LC_ALL=ja_JP.UTF-8 fc-match monospace
kochi-gothic-subst.ttf: "Kochi Gothic" "Regular"
