This is probably just a remnant of the initial installation. I
suppose an Editor at one time or another thought it prudent to
separate the commands. I personally don't see the point in
separation.

Agreed

I disagree. I wrote the poppler instructions and I've always
*loathed* that standard library paragraph. I would never include
it in a page I write. That paragraph is only used on a handful
of packages. Many, many, many more packages install libraries
(with no specific configuration) and don't use the paragraph.
Besides, updating ld.so.conf and running ldconfig is mentioned
in the standard instructions at the beginning of the book. It
is redundant to say it again.

Next update to poppler, I'll remove the configuration information
section and just leave the config file section. :-)

Already done. Just waiting to commit when GNOME is all ready.
I don't want to commit the HAL/DBUS until GNOME is ready (today
or tomorrow).

Please read it again. Especially the 2nd paragraph.

No comment as I'm way behind on Xorg7

Seems this was just discussed a couple of weeks ago. However, see my
response to the last item.

I disagree. Please read the details about the Pango backends. You can
have a fontconfig backend (called something different, but uses
fontconfig), without X being installed.

No, pango doesn't "require" fontconfig.

Defer to Dan. What is a "paps? :-)

Sheesh, this one has been round and round and round and round.
Sooner or later we'll get it right.

Worked fine for me. Download using Firefox by simply clicking
on it.

One of the Editors just feels he has to be "different" than
everyone else and that standards don't apply.

Thanks for the comments, Chris.
