We do not have a GNOME desktop in the book, strictly speaking. Since systemd has become necessary for that, many packages have been moved to archive.
Considering that two GNOME packages have been recently moved to archive and gnome-keyring is now being considered to be moved there, some of us have been discussing, and it seems that other GNOME packages could also be archived. A few have been listed as still being used by some of us or as dependencies for other packages in the book: *****30. GNOME Core Packages *****Platform Gvfs-1.18.2 *****Required Runtime Dependencies gnome-icon-theme-3.10.0 gnome-icon-theme-extras-3.6.2 gnome-icon-theme-symbolic-3.10.1 gnome-themes-standard-3.10.0 notification-daemon-0.7.6 *****31. GNOME Applications baobab (at the moment, archived) Evince-3.10.0 gnome-system-monitor-3.10.1 Gucharmap-3.10.0 This sums up to 10 packages from a total of 42 (1 in archive). We still need to find out which of the 32 remaining ones are necessary as dependencies in the book. I will try to send another message, later today or tomorrow, with a list of other packages/libraries in GNOME that are necessary dependencies. We would like to receive comments, so we do not archive GNOME packages still in use.
