In fact it moves the modules down from /usr/lib/dovecot - one of the modules lives in an auth/ subdirectory which was the problem. Relevant directories are now:
/usr/lib/dovecot /usr/lib/dovecot/modules /usr/lib/dovecot/modules/doveadm /usr/lib/dovecot/modules/auth and all the libexec progs ncluding 'auth' remain in /usr/lib/dovecot.
