Yes, 1.04 is the current stable release, but development takes place on the trunk. It's like a tree, the trunk goes up the middle and branches are dead ends that go off to the side. When the firefox developers prepare for a release they take a copy of the current mozilla code and they call it a branch (in this case the aviary branch) any changes to the code are then just bug fixes. They work on stabilising the code and ironing out any bugs as they prepare it to be released. Meanwhile, development continues on the trunk. New features and changes to the core code (which may break the build) are added to the trunk. I think that's how it works anyway
