I think the point is that the book is missing one line:

Direct Rendering Manager ---> (Alex, this is the prompt with linux 3.1{6,7},
but maybe I missed your point).

at several places

and "Frame buffer Devices --->" at another place.

I try to correct that tonight (I'll be back timing OpenJDK later).
