I normally use icewm (and initially fluxbox, but for that pulse has not been installed), and ISTR that at one point pulse stopped being automatically started (that job had been passed to desktop environments), so I've been starting it my .xinitrc file, and using the --verbose option. Without that verbosity the log are no-longer spammed.
Obviously the root cause was that pulse is not adequately configured, but that will have to wait.
